ICAM: The International Conference on Arctic Margins (ICAM) is a forum for earth scientists who study the Arctic. ICAM was founded by the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in 1991 with the underlying themes of Arctic understanding and international cooperation in Arctic research. Since its very beginning ICAM has proved a successful arena to raise the geo-scientific knowledge of the Arctic and to foster cooperation and collaboration among Arctic researchers.
ICAM is organized, hosted, and conducted by scientists for scientists, which makes it a unique forum. Since its inception in 1991 six meetings have been held in Anchorage, Magadan, Celle, Dartmouth, Tromsø and Fairbanks.
ICAM VII 2015 in Trondheim, Norway
The next meeting, 7th International Conference on Arctic Margins (ICAM VII), previously announced to be arranged in St. Petersburg, will be held 2nd-5th June 2015, in Trondheim, Norway. ICAM VII is hosted by the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), and will be held at Britannia Hotel in the city center of Trondheim.
The ICAM VII International Organizing Committee is chaired by Morten Smelror (NGU) and Oleg Petrov (VSEGEI, vice-President of the CGMW Subcommission for Northern Eurasia), and comprises the members Karin Andreassen (UiT), Harald Brekke (NPD), James Clough (Alaska DGGS), Bernard Coakley (UAF), Dieter Franke (BGR), Thomas Funck (GEUS), Carmen Gaina (UiO), Wilfried Jokat (AWI), Valery Kaminsky (VNIIOkeangeologia), Hans-Joachim Kümpel (BGR), Astrid Lyså (NGU), Alexander Minakov (UiO), Andrey Morozov (Rosnedra), Odleiv Olesen (NGU), Victoria Pease (Stockholm University), Sergey Sokolov (RAS), Ruediger Stein (AWI), Dennis Thurston (BOEM) and Christian Marcussen, (GEUS).
ICAM VII 2015 General Session Topics
The scientific themes for ICAM VII are as follows:
- New data on seafloor geology and deep structure of the Arctic Basin and adjacent areas (their implementation in international projects, with sub-session on planned field activities)
- Circum-Arctic onshore-offshore structural relations
- Stratigraphy, paleo-environments and geological history of the Arctic basin and adjacent areas
- Arctic Large Igneous Provinces and their geodynamic significance
- Plate reconstructions and lithosphere evolution of the Arctic region
- Glacial events and their geological consequences (with sub-session on origin of bottom sediments)
- Arctic Gas Hydrates
Call for Abstracts
Abstracts are accepted for both oral and poster presentations. Presentations will be selected to cover the conference scientific themes. Given the limited number of oral presentation slots available, the Organizing Committee, in collaboration with session chairs, may assign some abstracts to the poster session. Both oral and poster presentations carry equal weight and abstracts will be published for both. Authors will be informed of the final format of their presentation before end of April 2015.

Pre-Conference Excursion (1st June)
Deep sea sediments, pillow lavas and iron-ores. One day excursion in the Trondheim Region to examine overthrusted and folded remains of deep sea sediments, lavas and MFS of the Iapetus Ocean, preserved in the roots of the Caledonides.
Post-Conference Excursion (5th-7th June)
The Leka Ophiolite and the Norwegian Strandflat. A three days excursion to examine the ophiolite sequence at the island of Leka and have a walk on the exposed Moho. We will visit a number of sites on the strandflat, the characteristic low-lying foreshore and beach features along the coast of Norway, and (if weather allows) walk the top of rugged hills to enjoy the majestic view of the coast. Only a limited number of seats are available on this excursion.
