Atle Mørk og Sten-Andreas Grundvåg har laget den geologiske guiden: Festningen - A 300-million-year joruney through shoreline exposures of the Carboniferous and Mesozoic in 7 kilometers.
Guiden er en nivå 3 guide, for forskere og profesjonelle guider.
Guiden er et godt utgangspunkt for alle som har lyst til å ta et geologisk besøk på Svalbard.
Guiden er lagt ut i to fil-størrelser, en stor hvor alle figurer kommer godt fram, og en mindre som ikke har like god oppløsning men som kan være lettere å laste ned på områder med dårlig nett.

Norsk Geologisk Forening inviterer til geomiljøets viktigste møteplass, 6-8. januar 2021, denne gangen som en digital konferanse.
Vinterkonferansen er en arena for alle disipliner innen geofaget, med et mål om å bidra til kunnskapsdeling, nettverksbygging, inspirasjon og faglig påfyll. Her vil du møte geovitere fra industrien, akademia og offentlig sektor.
Årets hovedtema er Geoscience in a changing world.
Vi har 14 ulike sesjonstemaer og oppfordrer alle å sende inn abstrakt til hele feltet av geovitenskap, enten foredrag eller poster. Frist til innsending av abstrakt er forlenget til 1. november. Alle abstrakt sendes til ngf[at]geologi.no, og kan være på inntil 450 ord.
Når abstrakt sendes inn, så legg ved Speaker Form. Husk å krysse av for om det er ønsket som muntlig presentasjon eller som poster presentasjon, samt foretrukket sesjon.

The Geological Socety of Norway cordially invites you to join the most important forum for the Geosciences in Norway, January 6th-8th, 2021 this time as an online event.
The Winter Conference is an arena for all the geoscience disciplines, with a goal to facilitate knowledge sharing, networking, inspiration and learning. You will meet geoscientists from the industry, academia, and govermental agencies.
Geoscience in a changing world is the main theme for the conference.
We have 14 sessions and themes but encourage any contribution to the entire field of the geosciences and the interface towards society. Abstract deadline are extended to November 1st. The abstract should be submitted to ngf[at]geologi.no, and can be up to 450 words.
When you submit your abstract, please attach a filled out Speaker Form. Please remember to mark if you want an oral presentaion or poster presentation, and preffered session.
You can find a template for the abstract further down, together with the Speaker Form after the overview of sessions.
More information on the practical implementation of the conference, registration and participation fees will be published during the autumn.
The Geological Society of Norway are happy to invite to Production Geoscience in November 3rd-4th, 2020.
The event will take place as an online event.
The program are ready, and the presenters are in place.
The conference starts Nov. 3rd at 11:30!
Internation Earth Science Olympiad 2020 (IESO) er dessverre avlyst.
Årets internasjonale vertskap i Russland har sett seg nødt til å avlyse gjennomføringen av den internasjonale finalen i GeofagOL pga Covid-19.
Grunnet spredningen rundt viruset er det derfor tryggest og ikke gjennomføre finalen i år.
Norsk Geologisk Forening er, som resten av landet, sterkt påvirket av COVID-19.
Vi leier lokaler hos Norges geologiske undersøkelse, og de har valgt å følge anbefalingene fra offentlige myndigheter med flest mulig hjemmekontor.
NGF følger også anbefalingene, og sekretariatet sitter nå på hjemmekontor for å være med på Norges største dugnad for å begrense koronasmitte.
Vi er tilgjengelig via mail. En del henvendelser kan ta lengre tid dersom det er noe vi må gjøre fra kontoret. Vi håper på forståelse for dette.
I disse vanskelige tider sender vi varme tanker til alle våre medlemmer og samareidspartnere, ta vare på dere selv.

NGF Bergen ønsker velkommen til foredrag med Jonny Hesthammer.
"Menneskene har aldri hatt det bedre enn nå. Likefullt ligger store utfordringer foran oss. Alle mennesker skal bringes ut av ekstrem fattigdom og få tilgang til ren energi, samtidig som vi skal kutte utslipp av klimagasser. Er det mulig? Foredraget tar for seg problemstillingen med faktabasert kunnskap, og forklarer hva Klimapanelets rapporter faktisk viser om veien til nullutslipp. Og hva dette innebærer med tanke på fremtidens energimiks. Til slutt belyses noen aspekter rundt det store spørsmålet: Hva skjer om vi ikke når FNs klimamål? Blir det slutten på menneskeheten, eller er det håp – også for geologer og geofysikere?"
Hesthammer er strukturgeolog med utdannelse fra UiB og University of British Columbia i Canada. Han var professor ved UiB i perioden 2002-2018. Han har startet 4 oljeselskaper og er i dag CEO i M Vest Energy. Han har skrevet en rekke kronikker om klima i Aftenposten, VG, DN, TU, Morgenbladet og BT.
Det blir lett servering og salg av drikke.
Vi satser på at det blir mulig å gjennomføre Geologiens Dag i høst, og jobber for at de skal bli mange arrangementer rundt i Norges land den 12.september.
Dersom noen arrangører vil utsette arrangementet sitt til lenger utpå høsten så er det helt greit. Det viktigste med Geologiens Dag er å få formidlet geologi til "folket", og i disse virustider er vi åpen for stor fleksibilitet.
Årets tema er "Geologi og klima gjennom tidene".

The International Symposium on Quartz - QUARTZ2021, held at the Støperiet in Tønsberg, South Norway, from the 5th to 7th September 2021, is the third event of its kind, which gathers petrologists, mineralogists, sedimentologists, economic geologists and mining and processing engineers having one study object in common: Quartz.
The Nordic Geoscientist Award is presented every second year in connection with the Nordic Winter Meeting. The Award is granted to a Nordic geoscientist who has, in the course of his/her career, been strongly involved in the society around us, as well as in specific fields in the geosciences.
I Oslo the president of Geological Society of Norway, Øystein Nordgulen got the honor to present the award.
In his speech given at den conference dinner on Thursday January 11th the reason for the award was presented.
The Nordic Geological Award is granted to a scientist with a long career in promoting geoscience in society.
The prize is awarded biannually at the NGW meeting, and the jury consists of the presidents of the Nordic geological societies and the directors of the geological surveys.
The 2020 prize winner’s activity within the geological community and in society has been long and remarkable.
The award goes to a person with an extensive publication record including articles in scientific journals, proceedings and books; mainly related to economic geology, mineral exploration, sustainable mining and the minerals sector in general.
For 35 years he was working in various positions for the GTK and as professor in economic geology at the University of Helsinki.
He has served the Geological Society of Finland as chairman (1995) and vice chairman (1994), led the expert group preparing Finland's minerals strategy, and was one of the key persons developing Finland's Green Mining concept in 2010.
Over the years, the prize winner has played an important international role in developing the Fennoscandian Exploration and Mining (FEM) meeting to internationally recognised event, and has also promoted Fennoscandian mineral resources on a global level at PDAC-meetings.
He was involved in the development of European Technology Platform on Sustainable Mineral Resources (ETP-SMR) and EIT RawMaterials consortiums.It is my honour and privilege to present the Nordic Geoscientist Award 2020 to Prof Pekka Nurmi.
At the NGWM20, the jury for the student poster award judged 39 posters.
The members of the jury: Henrik H. Svensen (jury chair), Nazmul Haque Mondol, Karianne Staalesen Lilleøren, Martin B. Klausen, Jørn Harald Hurum, Emma F. Rehnström, Angvik Tine Larsen and Henriette Linge.
The jury was impressed by the overall high quality of the posters and the presentations during the poster sessions.
It was exciting to see a new generation of geoscientists already making an impact.
As the quality of the posters were to such a high standard with a wide range of poster designs, the jury has decided to share the prize between two winners.
The jury’s keywords for award no 1: Straight to the point, very easy to follow, great graphics and images, convincingly argued, and exciting content.
The first winner is Åse Hestnes (Univ. Bergen) with the poster “Ductile to brittle structural framework of the Nordfjord area, Western Norway”.
The jury’s keywords for award no 2: Untraditional, innovative, artistic, capturing, we want more!
The second winner is Bitten Bolvig Hansen (NHM, Univ. Oslo) with the poster “Morphological trends in the Smithian (Early Triassic) ammonoid Arctoceras blomstrandi”.
The jury congratulates both students with the outstanding work.
